News - 2018
Seminar presentation: Péter gave a talk a about the "Effects of landscape structure on the biodiversity patterns and function" at the Department of Evolutionary Zoology at the University of Debrecen. November 2018.
Publication: Denis Kupsch’ paper was accepted in Biological Conservation with the title: "High critical forest habitat thresholds of native bird communities in Afrotropical agroforestry landscapes". Our paper shows that high share of native tropical forest has to be preserved for effective conservation of specialist birds. November 2018.
Guest scientist: We welcome Daisy Carate Tandalla guest scientist Péter's current visiting postdoc from Agroecology, University of Göttingen. Daisy spent one week in our institute and gave a seminar presentation. November 2018.
PhD defense: Róbert Gallé participated in the successful PhD defense of Tünde Szmatona-Túri as an external reviewer at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. November 2018.
Guest scientist: We welcome Asma Akter guest scientist, Péter's former visiting PhD student from Institute of Entomology, Biology Centre CAS, Czech Republic. Asma spent one week in our institute and gave a seminar presentation. November 2018.
New group member: We would welcome Tamás Lakatos as assistant research fellow to our group. Happy sciencing! November 2018.
Meeting: The group participated at the First Hungarian Urban Ecological Conference (https://ornithology.limnologia.hu/uban-ecology-conference-2018) in Veszprém. Dávid presented a talk, Edina and Robi presented posters and Péter gave a plenary talk. October 2018.
Meeting: Péter gave a plenary workshop on “Introduction to meta-analysis in ecology” at the 2nd European Meeting of Young Ornithologists (http://fledgelings-in-torino.blogspot.com), in Turin, Italy. October 2018.
New species for the Hungarian fauna: Niki and Robi found a new spider species for the Hungarian fauna: Drassyllus sur (Tuneva & Esyunin, 2003; https://araneae.nmbe.ch/data/3022). This species is one of the many recently discovered arthropods, which have their relatives in the Eastern steppe regions forming part of the hidden diversity. They definitely plan to publish this and probably other discoveries in scientific publications. October 2018.
New group member: We would welcome Nikolett Gallé-Szpisják as lab assistant to our group. Happy sciencing! October 2018.
Publication: Annika Hass’ paper was accepted in Journal of Applied Ecology with the title “Maize-dominated landscapes reduce bumble bee colony growth through pollen diversity loss”. This is the first paper under the group name. September 2018.
PhD defense and seminar talk: Péter participated in the succesful PhD defense of Silvia Zingg as external reviewer at Bern University, Switzerland, and also gave a seminar talk at the university. September 2018.
Meeting: Péter gave a workshop on “Introduction to meta-analysis in conservation biology” at the 4th Student Conference on Conservation Science (https://sccs.okologia.mta.hu), in Tihany, Hungary. Andreas Wiedenmann, an MSc student of Péter from the University of Goettingen received the best poster prize. Congratulations. September 2018.
Group foundation: MTA ÖK Lendület Landscape and Conservation Ecology Research Group was founded by Péter after receiving the prestigious Lendület (=Momentum) grant provided by the MTA (=Hungarian Academy of Sciences). We are located at the ÖK (=Ecological Research Center) in the Ecological and Botanical Institute, which is placed in the National Botanical Garden in a nice village, called Vácrátót close to the capital, Budapest. Róbert, Edina, Dávid as researchers and Brigi as secretary are part of the group. We are happy to do great science especially related to landscape scale ecology with conservation oriented research questions. September 2018.
